For much of its 122-year history, the Pennsylvania Railroad was the largest railroad in the world. Bearing its home-state’s familiar keystone crest, the Standard Railroad of America covered more than 10,000 track miles and boasted almost 7,000 locomotives and more than a quarter of a million cars.
